This comedy-noir-caper revolves around a stolen clarinet, a couple of small time hoods, and a mysterious femme fatale. This is the first time I made a film that I didn’t write on my own. The screenplay for LICORICE STICK is by ANDREW HOPPER and myself. He also plays “LOWELL” - one of the crooks. It proved to be a great collaboration. We had a really great time making this film. With little-to-no crew, it was just the actors, the Scoopic 16mm camera, and myself. All the actors brought an interesting depth and humor to their roles, pushing each other and myself to places beyond the page. DANIEL MARTINICO edited this one, making limited footage really work, and creating all the optical split screens. This also marks the second collaboration with my Dad, HOWIE SEGURSON. His musical score brought the whole thing together, adding rhythm, tone, and mood to the film.

In the process of making this short, Hopper and I have written a feature version of LICORICE STICK and are currently seeking funding. Send me your street address...
I’ll send you a copy of the finished short on DVD.
